AI-assisted assessments
How the SkinMD Lens pre-read produces differentials, confidence scores, and ICD-11 suggestions for a photo.
4 min readUpdated 2026-09-14
SkinMD Lens is the AI-assisted pre-read built into SkinMD. When a photo is processed, Lens produces a ranked list of differentials with confidence scores, suggested ICD-11 codes, and a recommended follow-up cadence. The output is a starting point for your own clinical judgement, not a diagnosis.
What Lens produces
- Differential list — the most likely conditions, ranked by the model’s confidence.
- Confidence score — a number from 0 to 1, displayed as a percentage.
- ICD-11 suggestions — derived from the top differential and any body region label.
- Recommended cadence — how soon to re-photograph or re-evaluate, based on severity.
Reading an assessment
- 1Open the Assessments tab on a patient chart.
- 2Click the assessment row to open the review panel.
- 3Compare the top differential to the photo; ignore low-confidence rows.
- 4Open “Diagnosis review” to accept or reject a suggestion and attach an ICD-11 code.
Lens is an aid, not a diagnostic device. Always correlate the suggestion with the patient’s history, exam, and your clinical judgement before signing a diagnosis.
